Ⅰ Introduction

It is impolite to begin a meal until everyone is seated. It is also considered impolite to chew food with an open mouth, or to talk while chewing anything。

在别人就座以前就逐渐用餐是很没礼貌的。张开嘴巴咀嚼食物，或是边咀嚼边讲话，也被觉得是没礼貌的。

Americans often order the food they like to eat, separately from the group. If a person has had enough or is full，it is considered impolite to insist on that person having more to eat or drink。

外国人聚在一块时，常常是分别点她们喜欢吃的食物。假如有些人吃完了或吃饱，强烈建议她/他再多吃一点或是再好喝一点被觉得是沒有文明礼貌的。

　Ⅱ Sample Sentences

1. I’d rather not, really, I’m not used to strong drinks。

我还是不上，确实，我不会习惯性喝烈性酒。

2. Shall we have a snack at this coffee shop?

我们可以去咖啡厅吃点小吃吗？

3. We could reserve a window table now。

我们可以如今预订一个靠窗的餐桌。

4. Would you please pass the toothpicks?

你可以把木签拿给我吗？

5. Let’s toast the arrival of the new baby。

大家为新生婴儿干杯吧。

6. Do you prefer your steak rare, medium or well done?

你较为喜爱生的、中等水平熟度的，或是彻底熟的牛扒？

7. Don’t worry about the mess; I will clean it up after the party。

不要担心这种不干净的东西，聚会活动后我能清扫的。

8. Shall we chat a while over a glass of wine before dinner?

大家晚饭前喝一杯酒闲聊一阵，好么？

9. Would you accept my invitation to a stag party?

你能接纳我的邀约来参与男生聚会活动吗？

10. Can you use chopsticks or would you rather have a knife and fork?

你可以用筷子，或是宁可用餐刀？

　Ⅲ Conversations

1. Lisa is a Chinese exchange student who is visiting her friend Tony in Chicago。

(莉莎是个中国的留学生，她去拜会纽约的盆友托尼)

Tony: Want to send out for some Chinese?

想送一些中国的？

Lisa: Some what?

一些哪些？

Tony: Some Chinese food. I'm hungry, and there's a take-out restaurant near here. We can have them deliver and then watch the news on TV while we eat。

一些中国餐。我要吃，这附近有一家外卖送餐餐饮店。我们可以叫她们送到，随后大家一边吃一边看电视剧里的新闻报道。

Lisa: No, I'd rather go out. The Chinese food here is rather different from what I had at home. Maybe we can try some other food today… What about that all-you-can-eat place we passed the other day, the one over in the shopping center?

不，我宁愿外出吃。这儿的中国餐与一个人在家吃过的很不一样。或许今日我们可以试一下其他的菜……前不久大家历经的小吃一条街如何，便是购物广场里边的那一家？

Tony: Okay. I could go for that. It's called Al's Steakhouse. They also have great fried fish, and I love their salad bar. You can go back to refillyour plate as often as you like。

好的。是我兴趣爱好去试一下。那个地方叫阿尔的牛排馆。她们也有很好吃的油炸鱼，并且我都喜爱她们的水果沙拉巴。你爱吃是多少就可以回来夹满你的菜盘。

Lisa: Is that the place that serves such large portions of meat?

是那一个供货大份量肉的地区吗？

Tony: Yes, their steaks are enormous. Sometimes I can't finish what I've ordered。

对啊，她们的牛扒许多肉。有时我还吃剩我点的。

Lisa: What if that happens to me? I hate to let food go to waste。

假如因为我那样那怎么办？我很讨厌消耗食物。

Tony: Don't worry. We'll just get a doggie bag。

不必犯愁。大家就将剩饭剩菜装包。

　　Additional Information：

Americans hate to waste food. And they can always take their leftovers home without being embarrassed. That’s something we both have in common。

外国人讨厌消耗食物。她们很有可能常常把剩饭剩菜带回去，无须觉得难堪。这一点是大家所现有的。
